Escorts to expand range in auto component, farm equipment business

Escorts Ltd is in discussions for greenfield technical partnerships as it looks to increase its products across its various businesses. The company is looking to broaden its auto component portfolio, while also becoming a full farm equipment producer by making more varieties of implements.

Escorts' Agri-Machinery division would launch six products, of which four would be totally new. Agri-Machinery Group (AMG) had added 6-7 products in the last 10 months and would invest further to improve product mix and increase capacities in higher horsepower and mid-range tractors. With a range currently between 25 hp and 100 hp and a market share of 15 per cent, Escorts may also look at new segments, such as sub-25 hp tractors.

With 88 per cent of the revenues coming from AMG, the company has a three-year plan to expand beyond the 97,000 unit annual capacity of which it is utilizing 80 per cent. To increase exports, it is expanding its dealer network in Africa, while building a tractor assembly plant in the region by end-fiscal. In July this year, Escorts had got a $40-million order to supply 1,430 Farmtrac tractors to the Tanzania government.
