RPower project: First batch of GE gas turbines arrives

17 Jun 2011 Evaluate

The first batch of two gas turbines for Reliance Power's 2,400-MW gas-based Samalkot expansion project reached Kakinada port, from GE in the US. GE, scheduled to ship the first batch of gas turbines in May, had earlier dispatched two gas turbines in April, a month in advance from its Greenville, South Carolina facility. It is understood that the remaining four gas turbines are also scheduled to be dispatched by GE from the US port ahead of schedule.

Early arrival of shipment will help Reliance Power commission all the gas turbines of the project within the Eleventh plan. On commissioning; the project will contribute 16,000 million units (kWh) to the southern region. The project entails an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore and will be the largest gas-based power plant in India
