Neyveli Lignite starts commercial operation at unit-II of Barsingsar power plant

02 Jan 2012 Evaluate

Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s unit-II of Barsingsar thermal power station (125 MW) has been declared for commercial operation with effect from December 29, 2011.

Also, the company’s mining operation and the generation of power from Neyveli Mines and Power Stations at Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu has been disrupted. This was due to the ‘Thane’ cyclone which has hit the district on December 30, 2011. However, all the efforts are being taken by the company to restore normalcy at the earliest.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines with a capacity of about 30.60 million tonnes per annum, while it can produce about 2,740 MW of power from four power plants.
