Tata Power’s generation capacity rises by 24% in FY14

Tata Power Company, India’s largest integrated power company, has generated 45,210 MUs (million units) of power collectively from all its power plants in the year 2013- 2014, compared to 34,683 MUs in the previous fiscal. This marks a significant more than 24% increase in generation, with the total power generation capacity of Tata Power standing at 8613 MW from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery, thereby reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.

Surpassing the set benchmark of the previous fiscal, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) and Maithon Power (MPL) have contributed substantially to the company’s increase in generation capacity. By 2022, Tata Power aims to boost the generation capacity to 18000 MW and 4000 MW of distribution respectively.

The company also has a significant presence in the clean energy space with a gross installed capacity of 1206 MW. Tata Power currently has a total operating capacity of 461 MW from Wind farms and 54 MW in Solar Generation. In addition, the company has 447 of hydro and 240 MW from waste gas-based generation.
