Opposition leaders have come out strongly against the reported hike in FDI cap in Defence and Railways by saying that they will oppose this move of the NDA government. Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal asserted his party's opposition to the move by stating that this is how the East India Company had entered India and added that FDI will make India and its farmers slave to foreign countries. They will tell people how they have been fooled by those who got elected to bring good days.

Congress' Rajeev Shukla said that during UPA, BJP were the biggest opposers of FDI, now when they are in power they are the biggest supporters of FDI. Atul Anjan of the Communist Party of India (CPI), added that If they are to bring FDI in every sector, then they should also bring a foreign Prime Minister, why do they need Narendra Modi?'

The Trinamool Congress has also said that the party will protest in parliament against this total subversion of democracy which shows arrogance of the government. In a cabinet meeting held last night, the cabinet raised the FDI limit in Defence to 49 percent while allowing 100 percent FDI in railway infrastructure.
