Tata Motors bags order for 10 CNG-electric hybrid buses from Spain

Tata Motors has received an order for 10 CNG-electric hybrid buses from Spain, the buses have also received a favourable response from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The company is eliciting a favourable response for its CNG-electric hybrid buses and expects demand for these buses to increase not only overseas but also from domestic market.

During the last Commonwealth Games, Tata Motors had presented four CNG-electric hybrid buses to the DTC. In Mumbai too the company on a trial basis has handed over two CNG-electric hybrid low-floor Starbuses to BEST.

Compared to a conventional bus, Tata Hybrid Starbus offers substantial improvement in fuel economy and the usage of this technology leads to lower emissions and is environment-friendly. The auto major is also preparing diesel-electric hybrid buses for trials by the State Transport Undertakings (STCs) by end-this year. The company did not reveal the pricing of both products and capacity and are awaiting some policy support from the Government on electric vehicles and hybrids.

Recently, Tata Motors received an order from Surat-based Siddhivinayak Logistics (SVLL) worth an estimated Rs 150 crore to supply 1,111 medium and heavy trucks in a year.

The Company’s net profit for the year ended March 31, 2011 has dropped by 19.11% to Rs 1811.82 crore as compared to Rs 2240.08 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has increased by 28.78% to Rs 48223.72 crore for the year from Rs 37446.50 crore for the previous year.

On the Consolidated basis, the Group’s net profit for the year ended March 31, 2011 has zoomed by 260.69% at Rs 9273.62 crore as compared to Rs 2571.06 crore for the previous year. Its total income has increased by 30.65% from Rs 94312.37 crore a year ago to Rs 123222.91 crore for the year.
