M&M’s unit to enter dairy segment through inorganic route

27 Aug 2014 Evaluate

Mahindra Agribusiness, part of the farm to aerospace conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), is all set to enter the dairy segment through the inorganic route, with a focus on the pouched milk segment.  The company sees potential for growth in the dairy sector as farm productivity in India is only about 50 percent of that in advanced countries.

The company’s experience in watershed management projects in 32 villages in Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative will prove useful for its dairy business plans, especially in milk collection pilots. For its push into dairy, Mahindra Agribusiness wants to replicate the supply chain model of its grape export business, Mahindra ShubhLabh Services (MSSL).

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is the flagship company of the Mahindra Group, a multinational conglomerate based in Mumbai, India. Amongst the various business interests of its parent group, the company is mainly involved in the automobile manufacturing. It is one of the leading auto companies of India.
