NTPC is all set to add 13,000 MW of power generation capacity by the end of the XI Five—Year Plan in 2012. By the XI Plan period, the company aims to put about 13,000 MW of capacity on stream, contributing to the government of India’s plans of adding 68,000 MW by that time. NTPC aims to become a 75,000—MW company by 2017.
The country’s largest power company, NTPC, has an installed capacity of about 32,000 MW and presently operates 15 coal based, seven gas based and four joint venture power stations. NTPC accounted for nearly a third of the country’s total electricity output during the year 2008—09. It has been allocated six coal blocks for captive usage, which are expected to produce 48 million tonnes per annum.
The company will take part in the tariff based bidding for projects with a competitive spirit, adding that timely implementation of multi crore rupee contracts were essential.
