Alstom has been awarded a contract worth around Euro 13 million from Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) for the extension project of the Thac Mo 75 MW hydropower plant in Vietnam. The aim of this project is to increase peak load capacity to support the existing 150 MW Thac Mo power station with 75 MW of additional power. The scope of the contract includes design, manufacturing, testing, supply, erection and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment consisting of one vertical Francis turbine of 75 MW, generator, control systems and electrical balance-of-plant equipment.
The main turbines and generators will be manufactured at Alstom’s state-of-the-art Vadodara facility in Gujarat India, one of the company’s largest hydro manufacturing hubs worldwide. Electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant items will be supplied from various countries including Vietnam.
The existing Thac Mo power station has two 75 MW Francis type turbines and was commissioned in 1995. It supplies power to the national grid of EVN covering the southern part of Vietnam. The project aims to focus intensively on creating a positive social and environmental impact for the population in the region.
