In a bid to reach out to unbanked villages, UCO Bank has finalised its financial inclusion plan for providing banking services to 1,780 such villages each having population of more than 2,000 by March 2012. The bank would also extend banking services to about 8,000 villages each with a population of 2,000 and less. While a number of such villages would be taken up this year and in 2011-12, the rest of these villages would be covered by March 2013, according to a statement issued by the bank.

In order to achieve its goal of financial inclusion in distant villages, the bank has launched ‘UCO Mobile Bank' which is a van with CBS connectivity.

“Three such vans (including one with biometric and braille-enabled ATM) are already operational in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The bank has also taken various initiatives for implementation of smart card based financial inclusion. The bank has also started its initiatives towards ICT-based financial inclusion in 2008 and three pilot projects have been undertaken in Orissa and Rajasthan.
