Fire breaks out at Kalpena Industries’ Flexible Packaging Unit

27 Oct 2014 Evaluate

Kalpena Industries’ Flexible Packaging Unit located at Dankuni, West Bengal has been completely gutted due to devastating fire caused by, perhaps, short circuit on October 19, 2014. Twenty Two Fire brigades were pressed into service and even then it took more than 48 hours to douse the fire. However, by that time the factory was completely gutted.

The company is assessing the loss. However, all units producing PVC compounds are functioning normally.

Kalpena established a modern unit at Daman for the manufacture of PVC compounds. Sustained growth over the next decade necessitated another round of expansion in 1994, when the group set up a second unit in Daman. This state-of-the art plant employed the latest process technology to manufacture XLPE compounds.
