NTPC commences commercial generation from two Thermal Power Stations

NTPC has commenced commercial generation from its first 660 MW unit of the Barh Super Thermal Power Station and the 110 MW unit II of its subsidiary Muzzafarpur Thermal Power Station.

These plants are situated in Bihar. The Muzzafarpur unit was shut down before the Government of Bihar handed it over to Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam, a subsidiary of NTPC and Bihar State Power Generation Company. The plant now also has 2 x 195 MW of capacity under construction.

Meanwhile, the Barh Super Thermal Power station, wholly owned and operated by NTPC, will have an ultimate capacity of 3300 MW in two stages. In stage one three units of 660 MW each will come up while in the second phase two units of 660 MW will be commissioned. The plant is located in Patna district of Bihar.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
