Tata Power’s 74:26 Joint Venture (JV) with DVC - Maithon Power (MPL), has undertaken two technical initiatives at the plant site with an aim to decrease its auxiliary power consumption.
MPL’s 2X525 MW Ash Handling Plant currently has two stages of ash conveying system by pressurized air. The team enhanced the first stage conveying mechanism by reducing the cycle-gap timer of APH & duct which minimizes the carryover of coarser ash to ESP 1st Field, thus reducing the running hours of compressor. This significantly reduces its auxiliary power consumption.
The plant also has a liquid fuel (HFO) firing system for initial start-up and furnace stabilization. Each unit had a dedicated piping & pumping system for this.
