Apollo Tyres to invest Rs 1,500 crore to expand capacity at its Chennai facility

In a bid to expand its truck bus radial tyres capacity at its Chennai plant, Apollo Tyres is planning to invest around Rs 1,500 crore. The company is planning to increase the truck bus radial capacity to 9,000 units a day from 6,000 units a day currently.

The plant also has the capacity to manufacture 16,000 tyres for passenger cars in a month. The current capacity utilisation for the same is around 80%. Further, the company is planning to invest around Rs 400-500 crore over the next five years to expand its off-highway tyres manufacturing capacity in Kerala.

Apollo Tyres produces the entire range of automotive tyres for ultra and high speed passenger cars, truck and bus, farm, off-the-road, industrial and specialty applications like mining, retreaded tyres and retreading material. These are produced across Apollo’s eight manufacturing locations in India, Netherlands and Southern Africa.
