NTPC-Simhadri plans to add 1,600 MW capacity

NTPC-Simhadri thermal power unit at Parawada in Visakhapatnam district is planning to expand its capacity from 2,000 MW to 3,600 MW. The company is planning to expand the capacity of its plant from 500x4 units by adding 800x2 units with ultra super critical technology by acquiring land in the adjoining area.

The company will need 800 acres for the project. It will be developed with ultra super critical technology with higher efficiency and less coal consumption and emissions compared to existing technologies followed at various power plants. It would be a green power project. It will involve an investment of Rs.5 crore to Rs.6 crore for production of each megawatt.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
