Tata Power’s Mundra UMPP generates 62,945.77 MUs of electricity till FY15

Tata Power’s wholly owned subsidiary, the 4000MW Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL), India’s first ultra mega power plant (UMPP), has successfully completed three years of operation, generating 62945.77 MUs of electricity from 2012 to 2015. Using supercritical technology, one of the most energy-efficient thermal power plant in the country, the Mundra UMPP supplies electricity to eight discoms in five states, namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana and Punjab. Gujarat is the largest procurer of power from CGPL at 47.5 percent, followed by Maharashtra at 20 percent, Punjab at 12.5 percent, and Haryana and Rajasthan at 10 percent each.

The Mundra UMPP meets 2 percent of India’s power needs and benefits close to 16 million domestic consumers, apart from supplying cost competitive power to industry and agriculture. In Gujarat, the project supplies power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam, in Maharshtra to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, and in Punjab to Punjab State Power Corporation. The project powers two discoms in Haryana- Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, and three discoms in Rajasthan- Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam.
