Electricity trader PTC India is reportedly planning to increase the number of medium-term power purchase pacts with power generators and utilities. This is because transmission constraints are hurting short-term trades while numerous litigations have made long-term (25 year) power purchase agreements unattractive. The company is trying to sell this to the utility customers also as it is a quick win solution in a situation of uncertainty.
PTC India acts as intermediary between buyer and sellers of power. In case of cross-border trading, the company plays the role of a nodal agency. It offers advisory services for setting up independent power producing plants.
