24 Dec 2009 Evaluate

Adani Power Rajasthan Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd (APL), has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LoI) by the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL) for purchase of up to 1,200 MW of power on long-term basis. With this, the total long-term power-selling arrangement firmed up by APL comes to 5,944 MW.

APL already has power-purchase agreements (PPAs) of 2,000 MW with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), 1,424 MW with Haryana Utilities and 1,320 MW with Maharashtra Utilities through its subsidiary viz. Adani Power Maharashtra Ltd (APML).

APL won all these bids under Case-I competitive bidding, wherein the developer takes the full responsibility for project development and commits to supply power through competitive bidding process from the pre-decided date. APL is the only power company in the country with PPAs of nearly 6,000 MW under Case-I bidding.

APL is developing a 1,320-MW power plant at Kawai in Rajasthan where project execution has already commenced and 75 per cent of debt is tied up. At the time of its IPO a few months ago, APL had stated that there would be additional projects beyond 6,600 MW which was the basis of its IPO offering. The company planned to build 20,000 MW generation capacity by 2020 with diversified fuel sources.
