Tata Power Company, India’s largest integrated private utility, through its subsidiary, Khapoli Investments and Exxaro Resources, South African based diversified resources, formed 50:50 joint venture to create a new energy company, Cennergi.
Cennergi, which will be based in South Africa, will focus on the investigation of feasibility, development, ownership, operations, maintenance, acquisition and management of electricity generation projects in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. The initial project pipeline focuses on renewable energy projects in South Africa and Cennergi's strategy is to create a balanced portfolio of generation assets.
The company recently announced that the first 800-MW unit of its flagship 4,000 MW Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) has achieved full capacity utilization. The 4,000 MW Mundra plant in Gujarat is the country’s first UMPP. Mundra UMPP will have five units, each having a capacity of 800 MW. The work on other four units is also on track and progressing well.
