Alstom secures contract worth Rs 1,100 crore for Lucknow Metro rail project

Alstom India has secured a contract worth Rs 1,100 crore to supply train coaches and signaling systems for the Lucknow Metro rail project. The company will supply 20 metropolis train sets, each composed of four metro cars. Each car will be fitted with air conditioning and a passenger information system ‘for a high level of passenger comfort’. The metro cars will be produced in the company’s Sri City train manufacturing facility in India. The signaling system will be jointly supplied by company's sites in Bangalore and Saint-Ouen in France.

The firm will also provide Urbalis, a communication-Based train control (CBTC) solution, which controls movement of trains enabling them to run at higher frequencies and speeds in total safety. The Lucknow Metro will cover around 23 km comprising 19 elevated and three underground stations. The project will be completed in two phases beginning with a first corridor of 8.4 km.
