Tata Power to put up power plant for Corus

26 Jun 2009 Evaluate

Tata Power has signed a MoU with Tata Steel Limited and Corus Steel B.V. for the construction of a 525 MW combined heat and power plant at Corus’ IJmuiden works in the Netherlands. The plant will be ready in 2013.

Tata Power and Tata Steel will set up a joint venture company to build, own and operate the power plant that will convert most of the excess production gases of the steel plant into steam and power for the steel plant.

This power plant will enable Corus’ IJmuiden works to secure its own long-term steam and power needs, the company said. The Corus’ IJmuiden plant is also a green power project and will help Tata Steel and Tata Power in reducing their carbon footprint.
