Bajaj Auto is expanding presence in Tier II cities in order to give a tough volume competition to Hero Honda. The automaker plans to add 130 dealerships to its current network of 485 dealerships across the country by June next year.
Bajaj Auto had limited presence in the smaller towns (with population of 25,000), where a brand like Discover can be positioned strategically. With additional number of dealers, it will be able to reach out to wider population.
Hero Honda, which is the market leader in the motorcycle segment, has sold 30,35,536 vehicles this fiscal. Currently, Bajaj Auto sells on an average 200,000 motorcycles per month in the domestic market. Competitior of Bajaj is very well established in small villages with population of 5,000. Initially, Bajaj will focus on expanding its dealer network in major states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Bihar and is expecting to generate 7,000 jobs.crackcrack
