Jaiprakash Power Ventures has decided to enter into cement business by setting-up cement grinding units at Nigrie and Bina to optimally utilize fly ash to be generated by the company's Thermal Power Plants at Nigrie and Bina - an initiative directed towards environment protection.
At present, the company develops, implements, and operates hydroelectric power projects in India. The company owns and operates a 400 megawatts run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant consisting of four 100 megawatt units on the river Alaknanda in Chamoli district of the state of Uttarakhand.
The company reported a surge of 161.40% in its net profit of Rs 59.52 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011 as compared to Rs 22.77 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income increased by 130.52% from Rs 181.20 crore for Q3FY11 to Rs 417.70 crore in the quarter under review.
