Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise visit to Lahore last month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the democratically elected government in Islamabad must become stronger for resolving ties between the two Asian neighbours. Nitish said that ‘As far as the PM’s visit to Pakistan is concerned, it is my personal opinion that his visit was absolutely right. At this point, it is very important for the democratically elected government there (in Pakistan) to become stronger as there are other factors also there’.

The CM also drew attention towards the fact that the Kargil War took place at a time when former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was making all attempts to mend the relations between the two nations. Nitish further added that one must understand that the democratically elected government there has control over very limited departments. Whenever talks are initiated, the anti-national elements create trouble.

In an unprecedented diplomatic development, PM Modi landed in Lahore to meet his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif on his way back from Afghanistan last month. Exactly after a week after the Modi's visit, the terrorists attacked the Air Force base in Pathankot. Six terrorists were neutralized in the terror attack at the Pathankot air base that began in the wee hours on January 1. Seven security personnel were martyred in the terror attack. The conspiracy behind the terrorist attack in Pathankot was hatched in Markaj, Pakistan, as per high-level official sources. Putting the ball in Pakistan's court, India had said that the attack has once again put renewed focus on the challenge posed by cross-border terrorism.
