Country's largest automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors would be investing up to Rs 1000 crore over the next two-three years for the capacity expansion of its plant located at Dharwar, Karnataka. This additional plant in Dharwar with a capacity of around 90,000 units annually will exclusively manufacture the Tata Ace Zip and Magic Iris.   The company plans capacity expansion for this plant on address the rise in demand for Zip and Iris, which come mainly from the small businessmen, who carry small loads to work and back or have a small store-house in their homes. The plant is expected to reach full capacity by end of the next fiscal. Launched in May 2011, the Ace Zip and Magic Iris are vehicles in the 0.5-tonne category. Meanwhile, the company is also planning capacity expansion for its Pantnagar plant, where it produces Ace family of mini vans and trucks.

The company recently has forayed into the super-luxury inter-city bus segment with the launch of the Tata Divo. After Volvo and Mercedes, Tata Motors is the third player in the country in this segment.
