03 Aug 2011 Evaluate
Tata Metaliks hasdecided to shut its plant at Redi near Goa within a week, stung by disruptionin iron ore supply from Bellary district of Karnataka. The company gets suppliesof ore from the Bellary-Hospet region. The recent developments that have led toa ban on mining in the area have forced the company to take this step. TML hadacquired the Usha Ispat plant at Redi in January 2006 and managed to turn itaround in a few years. The plant is now one of the key units in TML’s plans toemerge as a top global pig iron producer. The Goa plant, where TMLproduces pig iron, is one of the company’s key manufacturing facilities, apart from Kharagpur in West Bengal. In terms of revenue too, the Goa unit iscrucial. It generates nearly 40% of TML’s annual revenue, contributing Rs.500crore to the company’s total revenue of Rs.1,300 crore. crackcrack
