Tata Power installs first Net Metering for the Rooftop Solar System in Mumbai

16 Feb 2016 Evaluate

Tata Power has successfully operationalised the net metering for the Rooftop Solar PV (RTS PV) System installed at the premises of Vardhan Industries, a Tata Power consumer, in Mumbai. This is the first installation of net meter by the company in its Mumbai distribution area under the procedure outlined in the MERC (Net Metering for Roof-top Solar Photo Voltaic Systems) Regulations, 2015.

A net meter has the ability to record the import and export of power. Through net metering arrangement, a consumer can drive surplus units of electricity generated by the solar units into the distribution grid of the company. The units will be then adjusted against the quantum of electricity supplied by the company during applicable billing period. The company has developed a comprehensive architecture to facilitate the connectivity of the consumers' RTS PV systems with its distribution grid. The company has synchronised the 10 kW RTS PV system with its distribution network in the month of February.

Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company with a growing international presence. The Company together with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities has an installed gross generation capacity of [9100] MW and a presence in all the segments of the power sector viz. Fuel Security and Logistics, Generation (thermal, hydro, solar and wind), Transmission, Distribution and Trading.
