Wipro, Kawasaki tie up plans major expansion & Wipro Tech consolidates operations, forms new unit

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, thehydraulics business arm of Wipro Limited has signed a joint venture contractwith Kawasaki Heavy Industries. According to the new agreement, the companywill set up a manufacturing facility for the manufacture of hydraulic pumps forexcavators. The joint venture will be called Wipro Kawasaki Precision MachineryPvt Ltd and will entail an investment of Rs 50 crore. Kawasaki’s PrecisionMachinery Company is part of the $16 billion Kawasaki Heavy Industries Groupand manufactures hydraulic components and equipment used in constructionmachinery as well as motorcycle, aircraft, rolling stock, ships, industrialrobots, plants and equipment. The facility will have an initial capacity of4,000 pumps which would be augmented to 15,000 pumps by 2015.  With this partnership, the company will be able toexpand its product portfolio in the hydraulic segment.

Wipro Technologies, the IT arm of Wipro hadcreated a focused global unit 'Business Operations Unit' by consolidatingbusiness application services and global delivery service among others. Thecompany will consolidate its business application services, global delivery,quality and IS teams under the newly formed Business Operations Unit. This will enable Wipro todeliver differentiated value for clients with seamless, predictable execution.The company has been undergoing a series of restructuring to streamline itsoperations.
