11 Apr 2016 Evaluate

Spices Board has tightened rules of sampling for jeera (cumin) exports after receiving several complaints from importing countries on adulteration and inferior quality shipments from Gujarat. The board has published a circular and with immediate effect tightened the rules relating to sampling and certification. This move taken by the board is good for the industry as it would restrict adultery.

As per the new rules, sampling intimation shall be placed one day prior to the proposed sampling date. The certificate shall be issued by the Spice Board based on the undertaking on the day of packaging. Moreover, the stuffing is not allowed without the presence of customs and central excise officials.

Further, the board would also undertake surveillance/ inspection at the stuffing area/Mundra port/Rajkot/Unjha during the months of April/May.
