Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company has reported 5% rise in its generation capacity in FY16 as compared to FY15. The Company, together with all its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has an installed generation capacity of 9184 MW (as of May 2016) as compared to 8750 MW in FY15 (May 2015) from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery, thereby, reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India. The consolidated generation through all its subsidiaries stands at 47,016 MUs (Million Units) in FY16. The standalone generation stood at 12,075 MUs in FY16.
Overall, in FY16, CGPL reported total generation of 25,680 MUs, while Maithon plant reported 7,172 MUs. TPREL, the renewable energy arm of Tata Power, generated 340 MUs that includes clean and green energy sources (Hydro, Wind & Solar). Total generation from clean sources was 3785 MUs.
The Company also has a significant presence in the clean energy space with a gross installed capacity of 1704 MW. ITPC, a 120 MW Hydro plant has been commissioned in Zambia in Q4FY16. The Company recently acquired 30 MW wind farm in Maharashtra thereby strengthening the clean energy portfolio. The Company also bagged 100 MW solar projects in Karnataka through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited. Tata Power vision is to generate 30-40% of its total generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2025.
