Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has been awarded with the prestigious OHSAS 18001:2007 certification. The company is the first Independent Power Producer in India to be presented with an OHSAS certificate. The company was awarded for the Management of Operations and Maintenance Activities at Wind Farms. Tata Power has fifteen wind power farms in 5 states which are operated by 5 different original equipment manufacturers. Each of these OEMs have their own operational and safety processes. Integrating each of the OEM processes with the standards and following them on site was one of the major challenges Tata Power overcame to achieve this certification.
Tata Power’s Wind Operations ensured the correcting of flaws with regards to systems requirement in an indigenous manner. The entire process of filing for certification was done in house by Tata Power’s Wind Operation Division. An international occupational health and safety management system specification, this certificate is intended to help organizations control occupational health and safety risks. It was developed in response to widespread demand for a recognized standard in occupational health and safety measures against which an organization is to be certified and assessed.
