Reliance Power dips on getting notice from coal ministry for delays in developing coal mines

Reliance Power is currently trading at Rs 48.75, down by 2.35 points or 4.60% from its previous closing of Rs. 51.10 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 50.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 50.00 and Rs. 48.50 respectively. So far 560875 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 61.40 on 12-Jan-2016 and a 52 week low of Rs. 33.05 on 25-Aug-2015.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 53.65 and Rs. 50.05 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 13731.09 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 75.00%, while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 10.48% and 14.51% respectively.

Reliance Power has received a show-cause notice from Union ministry of coal (MoC) for the delay in developing coal blocks associated with its 4,000-Mw Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) at Tilaiya in Jharkhand.  According to the notice, Reliance Power and its subsidiary Jharkhand Integrated Power (JIPL) cannot be absolved of their responsibility of paying for damages for non-achievement of milestones set for the development of the Kerandari B & C coal blocks.

After terminating the power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Tilaiya UMPP, Reliance Power had written to the Coal Ministry for release of the bank guarantee given for the Kerandari B & C coal blocks. Reliance Power’s bank guarantee for the Kerandari B & C coal blocks is worth Rs 800 crore. The Ministry has considered of the termination of the PPA of the Tilaiya UMPP as extraneous to the development of the coal blocks. It has sought a reply from the company within 15 days on why the bank guarantee should not be deducted.
