Maruti Suzuki to start work at Rohtak test track project

Maruti Suzuki, country’s largest carmaker is likely to start the proposed test track at Rohtak in Haryana. It has planned an outlay of about Rs 1,700 crore for the project. It has started initial work at the 600-acre site and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

The test track forms a critical part of any automotive company enabling it to test its vehicle before securing various certifications. The R&D team in India, having about 1,100 people, is playing a vital role in the design and development of cars. About 150 engineers from India are working in Japan at Suzuki centers on various cars under development.

Recently, the passenger car leader had forayed into Utility Vehicle segment by launching the industry’s first life utility vehicle ‘Ertiga’. The product portfolio of the market leader would be strengthened by Ertiga and it also creates an all new life utility segment at an attractive price point.
