GAIL (India) to set up India's first 4 MTPA floating LNG terminal

GAIL (India) is in process of setting up India's first 4 million tonne capacity floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal off the Andhra coast. The state-owned gas utility company will set up the terminal entailing an investment of about Rs 2,000 crore.

Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corporation, a company jointly promoted by Gail Gas and Andhra Pradesh Gas Infrastructure will be implementing the project. It has signed a project framework agreement with GDF Suez LNG UK for jointly setting up a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). GAIL Gas is a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India).

The project which is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2013 would help Andhra Pradesh which is experiencing acute gas scarcity.

GDF Suez is Europe’s largest importer of LNG and is very well diversified along the entire hydrocarbon value chain covering upstream E&P, LNG liquefaction, LNG shipping, LNG regasification, pipelines, city gas distribution etc.
