Infra stocks firms up as govt announces 27 new cities under 'Smart City Mission'

Stocks related to infra sector remained on buyers’ radar, as the government has announced the names of 27 more cities that will be developed under the centre’s ‘Smart City Mission’.

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) is currently trading at Rs 40.15, up by 0.45 points or 1.13% from its previous closing of Rs 39.70 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs 39.90 and has touched a high and low of Rs 40.65 and Rs 39.60 respectively. So far 1271229 shares were traded on the counter.

Sadbhav Engineering is currently trading at Rs 290.05, up by 3.15 points or 1.10% from its previous closing of Rs 286.90 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs 289.80 and has touched a high and low of Rs 290.90 and Rs 289.50 respectively. So far 588 shares were traded on the counter.

Reliance Infrastructure is currently trading at Rs 598.10, up by 4.30 points or 0.72% from its previous closing of Rs 593.80 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs 596.05 and has touched a high and low of Rs 600.65 and Rs 596.05 respectively. So far 97325 shares were traded on the counter.

The third list was announced after the latest round of the Smart City Challenge competition. Amritsar topped the list, while Vadodara in Gujarat finished in last place. Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Amritsar and Jalandhar in Punjab are among the 27 cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission, which will get Rs 200 crore for improving their infrastructure.

With the 27 cities announced on Tuesday, the total number of Smart Cities chosen rises to 60. Maharashtra topped the list with five cities, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were second with four cities each, followed by Uttar Pradesh with three cities.

The new cities are from 12 states and have proposed to invest a total of Rs 66,883 crore under their respective Smart City plans. The amount includes Rs 42,524 crore in area-based development (79% of the total) and Rs 11,379 crore (21%) in technology-based pancity solutions.
