Lignocaine acts as Membrane stabilizing agent and local anesthetic and ant arrhythmic. It is a mechanism that stabilizes neuronal membrane and prevents the initiation and transmission of nerve impulses. Ant arrhythmic effects by increasing the electrical stimulation threshold of the ventricle during diastole, while depressing the slow spontaneous depolarization i.e. decreasing autornaticity and increasing effective refractory period.
Further, Lignocaine also acts as potent suppressor of abnormal cardiac activity; blocking both activated and inactivated sodium channels.
