Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has distributed more than 3.2 lakh LED bulbs to its residential consumers in Mumbai under the UJALA scheme. Aimed at improving the penetration of the LED technology in the residential sector, the UJALA scheme is being implemented by Government of India.
Facilitation of UJALA is one of the measures implemented by Tata Power under its demand side management (DSM) initiative. DSM is an intervention by a utility on the ‘customer side of the meter’ to change the way customers use electricity. To encourage its consumers switch to energy efficient practices, Tata Power has launched exchange and new purchase programmes for various home appliances. Through tie ups with the reputed manufactures, the energy efficient appliances are being made available to the residential consumers at an attractive discount of up to 60 percent.
Online registration, doorstep delivery, and extended warranty for the products are some of the hallmarks of these programs. Ceiling fans, split ACs, refrigerators, and LED tube lights are the appliances covered under these programmes. Tata Power was able to provide more than 35,000 energy efficient appliances to its residential customers using this platform. By adopting energy efficient practices, these consumers have cut down their electricity bills while doing their bit for protection of the environment.
Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company with a growing international presence. The company together with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities has presence in all the segments of the power sector viz. Fuel Security and Logistics, Generation (thermal, hydro, solar and wind), Transmission, Distribution and Trading.
