With an aim to provide clean drinking water to the Delhi Metro commuters, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), a joint venture (JV) of Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, has inaugurated two any time water RO plants at Vishwavidyalaya and Jahangirpuri metro stations. The RO plants have been set up in association with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and have a capacity to purify and dispense 500 litre per hour (LPH) each of clean drinking water to cater to more than 11 lakh people daily, commuting on the yellow line at a nominal cost of Rs1 per glass (300ml).

The daily operations of the plants would be managed by member of TPDDL’s women self-help group (SHG). The SHG provides training and capacity building workshops, including RO plant maintenance management, to help women residing in the JJ Clusters earn a better livelihood. The plants are 3rd and 4th in the series as part of the MoU signed with the DMRC. TPDDL had previously set up water RO plants at Kashmere Gate and Kirti Nagar metro stations.
