HCC zooms on its Swiss arm planning to foray into Indian market

Hindustan Construction Company is currently trading at Rs. 21.20, up by 0.90 points or 4.43% from its previous closing of Rs. 20.30 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 20.35 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 21.20 and Rs. 20.00 respectively. So far 323454 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'B' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 35.80 on 02-May-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 15.90 on 22-Dec-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 24.75 and Rs. 19.85 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 1279.95 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 39.86% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 29.20% and 30.92% respectively.

After establishing itself as the largest building construction company in Switzerland, Hindustan Construction Company's (HCC) Swiss subsidiary Steiner AG is planning to foray into the Indian market this year. Steiner specialises in turnkey development of buildings and refurbishments and offers services in all facets of real estate construction.

Earlier in May 2010, HCC made its first international acquisition by taking a controlling stake (66% equity stake) in Switzerland-based building construction company Karl Steiner AG (KSAG). It has undertaken several projects, including the headquarters of Nestle, Google, World Economic Forum, Terminal T3 of Geneva airport, and several hotels and residential buildings.

For the last fiscal, Steiner registered revenue of Rs 3,996 crore and a net profit of Rs 15.8 crore. The closing cash balance of the company was around Rs 644 crore. HCC group's turnover last year was Rs 8,157.6 crore of which Steiner AG accounted for nearly half at Rs 3,996 crore.
