India’s cotton production is expected to reach 34.1 million Cotton bales this season (October 2016-September 2017) which is about 300,000 bales higher than last year, according to the data compiled by the Cotton Association of India (CAI).
The country is expecting total availability of Cotton this year at 40.4 million bales. The organized sector mill consumption will decrease to about 25.6 million bales compared to 27.5 million bales in the previous year, as per CAI. The current year will end with a surplus of about 11.4 million bales of Cotton in India.
Major Cotton markets in the country had been witnessing a downtrend in the arrivals even though it was peak arrival season in the country as the farmers are stockpiling Cotton to realize more value, which is also resulting in drastic price fluctuations. More arrivals are expected in the markets in the coming days and the pries are also likely to come down.
