GAIL surges on mulling to spend Rs 11,000 crore on gas distribution in UP

GAIL is currently trading at Rs. 337.25, up by 4.00 points or 1.20% from its previous closing of Rs. 333.25 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 333.25 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 338.50 and Rs. 333.25 respectively. So far 5694 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 476.50 on 25-Jul-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 303.10 on 18-May-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 343.95 and Rs. 332.35 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 42747.69 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 57.34% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 38.43% and 3.40% respectively.

Gas Authority of India (GAIL) is likely to invest Rs 11,000 crore towards gas distribution in Uttar Pradesh, which will lead to an indirect employment to 20,000 people. From these funds, Rs 1,500 crore would be allotted for the 200-km Jagdishpur Haldia Pipeline. Uttar Pradesh government is said to be prepared to cooperate with GAIL in developing natural gas infrastructure.

The company will get state government's support for relaxation in taxes and duties, development and strengthening of roads and canal water from the irrigation department. 

GAIL (India) is the largest natural gas transmission company in India, with interests in transmission, distribution, processing, and downstream petrochemicals. GAIL operates over 8,600 kilometres of natural gas pipeline, accounting for approximately 74% of all gas transmitted in India.
