Rural Electrification Corporation trades higher despite reporting 31% fall in Q2 net profit

Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) is currently trading at Rs. 168.35, up by 2.05 points or 1.23% from its previous closing of Rs. 166.30 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 167.80 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 171.50 and Rs. 167.00 respectively. So far 675200 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 223.80 on 09-May-2017 and a 52 week low of Rs. 113.10 on 09-Nov-2016.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 183.95 and Rs. 164.60 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 33237.87 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 58.86%, while institutions and non-institutions held 31.89% and 9.25% respectively.

REC has reported a fall of 30.64% in its net profit at Rs 1,214.66 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2017, as compared to Rs 1,751.27 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total revenue of the company decreased by 7.87% at Rs 5,627.71 crore for Q2FY18 as compared Rs 6,108.55 crore for the corresponding quarter previous year.

REC is engaged in providing financial assistance to state electricity boards, state government departments and rural electric co-operatives for rural electrification projects as are sponsored by them.
