NTPC to mix crop residue pellets with coal for power generation: Report

17 Nov 2017 Evaluate

In an initiative to help curb increasing air pollution in Delhi, the government has reportedly directed NTPC to procure farm stubble from states like Punjab and Haryana to be used in its fuel mix. In this regards, NTPC will source up to 10 percent of its fuel requirements for thermal power plants from paddy straw pellets or briquettes. The move is aimed at luring farmers away from stubble burning. This will create a market for stubble for the farmers. The farmer will be paid on an average Rs 5,500 per tonne for the stubble.

NTPC is the largest power utility company in India and has presence in Coal, Gas, Solar PV, Hydro and Wind Power Generation and Coal Mining.
