NHPC is in discussion with private players to form joint ventures (JVs) for developing hydel power plants. The company has planned this initiative to fast-track several of its projects facing delays. In this joint venture, NHPC will be a minority partner so that they are not treated as government entities.

The company currently has an installed capacity of more than 5,100 MW. Some of its projects such as 520 MW Parbati in Himachal Pradesh and Uri in Jammu and Kashmir are getting delayed due to various factors including local issues.

NHPC is engaged in the planning, development and implementation of an integrated and efficient network of hydroelectric projects in India. It executes all aspects of the development of hydroelectric projects, from concept to commissioning.
