NHPC rises on plans to form joint ventures for developing hydel power plants

NHPC is currently trading at Rs. 18.15, up by 0.05 points or 0.28% from its previous closing of Rs. 18.10 on the NSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 18.10 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 18.15 and Rs. 17.70 respectively. So far 7, 77,000 shares were traded on the counter.

The NSE group stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 27.00 on 04-Aug-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 17.15 on 18-May-2012.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 86.36% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 4.61% and 9.03% respectively.

NHPC is in discussion with private players to form joint ventures (JVs) for developing hydel power plants. The company has planned this initiative to fast-track several of its projects facing delays. In this joint venture, NHPC will be a minority partner so that they are not treated as government entities.

The company currently has an installed capacity of more than 5,100 MW. Some of its projects such as 520 MW Parbati in Himachal Pradesh and Uri in Jammu and Kashmir are getting delayed due to various factors including local issues.

NHPC is engaged in the planning, development and implementation of an integrated and efficient network of hydroelectric projects in India. It executes all aspects of the development of hydroelectric projects, from concept to commissioning.
