OMCs increase ATF prices by 2.7%

The state owned Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Sunday increased the jet fuel or the Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. Now ATF will cost around Rs 57,844 per kilolitre in Delhi, with the effect from midnight of July 31, 2011. The prices are increased by 2.7% or Rs 1,520 per kilolitre. This increase in ATF prices is due to increasing prices in the international markets. 

The ATF prices were reduced by 2.75% on July 1 and it was raised marginally by Rs 78 per kiloliter on July 16. The ATF prices accounts for almost 40% of an aviation firms operating cost. After the hike in prices, the ATF will cost around Rs 58,628 per kiloliter in Mumbai, home to the India’s largest airport from Rs 57,031.66 per kiloliter; up by Rs 1,597 per kiloliter.

The ATF prices vary from airports to airports depending on the local tax or VAT. As of now airlines companies has not given any indication on the increase of passenger fares. 

The state owned OMCs such as Indian Oil Corp, Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL), revise ATF fuel prices on the 1st and 16th of every month depending on the average international price in the earlier fortnight.
