Sathavahana Ispat shuts down its pig iron plant

Sathavahana Ispat has shut down its pig iron plant situated at Haresamudram village, Bommanhal (M), Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh for a period of six weeks with effective from August 05, 2011. The plant has been shut down due to non availability of iron ore in the Bellary-Hospet belt consequent to the Supreme Court's ban on mining.

Further, the plant operations will be resumed depending upon availability of iron ore and stocks built up. Meanwhile the company is also exploring various options to procure iron ore from alternative sources, available if any.

Recently, the company had shut down its power plant situated at Kudithini village, Korugodu Road, Bellary District on temporarily basis. The company had shut down the plant for repairs and maintenance which will last about seven weeks. On completion of repair and maintenance works, the plant would be functional.

Hyderabad-based Sathavahana Ispat engages in the manufacture and sale of pig iron and metallurgical coke in India. It offers pig iron that is used in engineering, construction, and foundry industries; and metallurgical coke, a raw material used in iron making.
