NLC India retires 100 MW unit of Thermal Power Station-I

NLC India’s 100-MW unit of Thermal Power Station-I has been retired, as part of the company’s planned phase-out process. The station generating capacity is reduced to 500 MW from the installed capacity of 600MW.

Further phasing out activities of TPS-I Units will be scheduled in line with directives Central Pollution Control Board.

The 600 MW Thermal Power Station-I (TPS-I) is a vintage plant, which is in service for more than 50 years. A new plant, Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (NNTPP) of capacity 1000MW (2x500MW) is under implementation as the replacement plant for this TPS-I. The commissioning activities of NNTPP are in final stages of completion.


NLC India is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines.
