Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading in green in the early deals on Monday after President Donald Trump said he would postpone a March 1 deadline for a US tariff hike on Chinese imports following productive trade talks over the weekend. Among the other Asian markets, Nikkei, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and Indonesia are higher. Bucking the trend, Singapore and Malaysia are lower.
Nikkei 225 rose 108.84 points or 0.51% to 21,534.35, Hang Seng spurt 68.84 points or 0.24% to 28,885.14, Taiwan Weighted gained 46.74 points or 0.45% to 10,369.66, Jakarta Composite added 13.57 points or 0.21% to 6,514.95, KOSPI Shares increased 0.01 points to 2,230.51, and Shanghai Composite up by 93.12 points or 3.32% to 2,897.35.
On the flip side, Straits Times dropped 9.93 points or 0.30% to 3,259.97, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down by 1.20 points or 0.07% to 1,720.22.
