Indian coal output increases by 8% to 638 MT during April-February 2018-19

Indian coal output has increased to 638.46 million tonne (MT) in the April-February period of the current financial year, as against 591.42 MT during same period last fiscal, registering a growth of 8%. Coal India, the largest coal-producing company in the world, has produced 527.70 MT in the eleven months of period current year, up by 6.6% as against last year's 495.08 MT. Coal India had fixed production target at 610 MT for the current financial year.

The coal production by state-owned Singareni Collieries Company during April-February 2018-19 was up by 6% at 57.94 MT as compared with 54.64 MT in the year-ago period. Its production target was fixed at 65 MT for 2018-19. Besides, the coal production target of captive mines was fixed at 40 MT, and they have attained a rise of 31.6% at 44.41 MT during the corresponding year as against 33.76 MT a year ago.

Meanwhile, coal production of other mines during April-February 2018-19 period was 8.40 MT comparing last year same period's 7.94 MT. Other mines had fixed target at 15 MT for 2018-19.
